HOMESTEAD, 1978
in private collection

40 x 40 inches acrylic on Masonite
Edna Piersol says of this work, "This old farm in Oldham County Kentucky was scheduled to be torn down
to make way for a new subdivision. It reminded me of my great grandfather's farm in
Pennsylvania that had succumbed to an airport years before, while I was not watching.
This house and barn in Kentucky had not been lived in
for years but I had often marveled at it's proud defiance of the elements while mourning the
passing of it's loving inhabitants. The dignity of these old , and now unloved, places
almost brought me to tears. I did not want them to disappear without a trace so
I immortalized one in the painting, HOMESTEAD, and dedicated it to my great grandfather's farm.
This painting was exhibited in the capitol building of the State of Kentucky in a
Kentucky Women Artists Exhibit
and is now in the private collection of my son, Eric Piersol."
